Tottenham Manager Frank Labels Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Real Supporters'
Fulham Start Strong to Beat Tottenham and Raise Tension on Frank
Spurs fans who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "those individuals can't be real Tottenham supporters" by manager Frank.
Tottenham conceded a pair of goals in the first initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their tenth top-flight at home defeat of 2025.
But the primary topic of discussion was Fulham's second goal when the keeper gave away the ball far beyond his box.
The goalkeeper came out to deal with a long ball and took the ball towards the touchline.
However, instead of kicking it into touch, the Italian turned and attempted to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.
King laid the ball off to Wales midfield player Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the touchline measured at 36.6 yards.
Seconds later when the ball went to the keeper again, a number of Spurs fans booed him.
Spurs were jeered off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at the final whistle.
One of those booing sessions really irritated the manager.
"I heard a few of our supporters apparently booed the incident and jeered after, which, in my view is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager stated regarding the fans' response to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals cannot be true Spurs fans that do that. Alright jeering following the match, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are with one another moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had given Fulham a early lead prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second-half performance.
Former Premier League keeper Hart stated that the next goal was "totally preventable".
"I certainly appreciate the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the part the keeper is playing. He is a great team player, he's a true figure in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the winning goal."
'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'
Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match
Italy national team Vicario is in his third campaign with Spurs.
He stated after the match that he had to take the criticism.
"That goal was a mistake of my own, I accept accountability for that," he commented.
"The intent was to clear the ball long and I just hit the ball in a bad manner. It was an even bigger challenge to climb."
He said being booed "is part of the game".
"I am mature, what can I say?" he continued. "The team can't be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.
"It is on us to stay more calm, to focus on our own performance. The team is missing in calmness and calmness to overturn results. This match is a poor loss and it's tough to accept."
'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Line'
In spite of the keeper's mistake, it was not an easy goal for Wilson to score.
Actually it was the second longest-range top division goal of the season – following Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which incidentally too came on the same day.
Wilson stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an open goal to aim for.
Ten seconds elapsed between the keeper coming out of his box and Wilson striking – which was 5 seconds following the clearance.
"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson remarked.
"It amazed me none of the defenders went back to the goal line. When not one of them defended the net, my interest lit up a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a little extra time. Then it was solely about attempting to make the right connection and get it on target. I felt a positive feeling, as soon as it left my boot, that it was heading in."
'When You're in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Go Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unacceptable - the Manager
Although Vicario's error led coverage, this was an overall poor day for Tottenham to extend their home ground struggles.
This was their tenth at home loss of the year in the Premier League, a shared team statistic matching 1994 and two thousand and three.
The side still have home fixtures against the manager's former club the Bees and champions Liverpool to play before the close of the season.
Only one of those victories have come since Frank replaced his predecessor in the summer.
"When you're down 2-0 after the opening, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated the boss.
"During in a bad spell, everything seems to go against you as well – the first was a deflected shot, the next is a mistake from Vic.
"The outcome puts us in a position where we have suffered an additional match. Each fixture has a single narrative, this game we lost in the early stages.
"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and with luck an aspect we can use to learn."
Spurs have lost 4 consecutive at home capital clashes for the first time in the Premier League.
And they are averaging 9.5 shots and 3.2 efforts on goal per game in the division – their poorest averages on record in a single season (dating back to 2003-04).
Former Fulham midfielder Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.
"He's got accept the criticism," the pundit said. "He's accepted a high profile role at a huge team with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and duty that accompanies that.
"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
