The President Welcomes Relatives of Injured Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the presidential home.
He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Event
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.
White House Call
The president stated he’s discussed a White House visit for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump told journalists. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Reaction
Mourners came together over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both they had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to aid policing efforts in DC.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors wished for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the press. “She was kind, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Funeral arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Policy Adjustments
Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy caused the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and temporarily stop providing entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.
Status of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader the governor said on television.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she also intended to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with distinction, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had fortitude,” he addressed the audience at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
