Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for concerns to be asked about his position following a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, representing the team's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received significant backing from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the belief. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder said.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period of this nature with outcomes like these.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to where it needs to be, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
