Pupils Share Concerns That AI Is Eroding Their Academic Abilities, Investigation Reveals
As per recent research, pupils are sharing fears that employing AI is weakening their ability to learn. A significant number report it renders schoolwork “effortless”, while a portion argue it restricts their creativity and stops them from acquiring new skills.
Widespread Usage of Artificial Intelligence By Learners
A study looking at the use of AI in United Kingdom educational institutions discovered that only 2% of learners aged 13 and 18 reported they did not use AI for their schoolwork, while 80% said they consistently employed it.
Adverse Impact on Abilities
In spite of AI’s widespread use, 62% of the pupils reported it has had a negative impact on their competencies and development at their educational institution. One in four of the students agreed that artificial intelligence “makes it too easy for me to find the answers without doing the work myself”.
Another 12% reported AI “restricts my imaginative processes”, while comparable figures said they were less inclined to address issues or compose originally.

The findings align with research-based studies on the use of artificial intelligence in education. One research measured neural responses during written assignments among learners using large language models and concluded: “These results raise concerns about the long-term educational implications of LLM reliance and underscore the need for deeper inquiry into AI’s role in learning.”
Almost 50% of the two thousand students questioned expressed they were concerned their classmates were “surreptitiously utilizing AI” for studies without their educators being able to identify it.
Call for Instruction and Favorable Elements
Numerous students indicated that they sought more assistance from teachers for the proper utilization of artificial intelligence and in evaluating whether its output was reliable. An initiative aimed at aiding educators with artificial intelligence instruction is being launched.

Merely 31% reported they didn’t think AI use had a adverse influence on any of their abilities. But, most of respondents stated using artificial intelligence aided them acquire additional competencies, including 18% who reported it assisted them grasp problems, and 15% who stated it assisted them produce “original and superior” concepts.
Student Perspectives
