Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
