Lautaro Martínez Double Keeps Inter on Tail of Frontrunners
Inter striker Lautaro Martínez scored a second-half brace to secure his team a 2-0 victory at Pisa, keeping the away side firmly engaged in the Serie A championship battle despite a less than convincing display.
Standings Overview
Under Cristian Chivu, Inter currently are placed in third position in the standings with 27 points, level with runner-up Roma and just one point behind leaders Milan. Meanwhile, Pisa occupy the third bottom position with 10 points.
Match Summary
Inter arrived in Tuscany aiming to get back on track after enduring a loss to rivals by Milan last weekend, which was followed by a European defeat at Atlético Madrid. Nonetheless, they were made to battle all the way by newly-promoted Pisa. The home team created plenty of opportunities, but a clinical Inter scored the opener in the 69th minute when Argentinian Martínez smacked a first-time shot into the roof of the net. The forward then tapped in from close range seven minutes from time.
Inter’s ability to score even with pressure was decisive in earning three points.
