External expectations Won't Enter My Head, Affirms Confident Postecoglou
Forest head coach Ange Postecoglou insists that any pressure regarding his position will not influence his approach.
The team remains winless in his first six matches since the coach took over from Nuno Espirito Santo at the City Ground.
A group of Forest supporters shouted, "you're getting sacked in the morning", towards the former Tottenham and Celtic manager following the recent 3-2 Europa League loss at their ground to the Danish side.
Postecoglou's Response to Criticism
Postecoglou, however, stated that the Europa League trophy he secured at Tottenham the previous campaign, before being dismissed in the summer, was proof he does not let external factors to impact his management.
"It doesn't enter my head," he added. "My responsibility lies in ensuring this football club progresses and reaches a level where it can challenge for titles," said Postecoglou.
"If I start setting deadlines to that or worry about what is occurring next week then I am not fulfilling the role I have been assigned.
"I believe it is helpful to anyone. At the end of the day, I have to concentrate on the environment, the practice sessions, the way we play, and as I mentioned last night, I am still extremely confident in my belief that we are not too far away.
"To explain - I knew I was being dismissed at Tottenham approximately three or four months before I did, but that didn't prevent me from securing a trophy."
Career Background
The veteran coach moved to Spurs from Celtic in 2023 and fans initially warmed to the coach for his attacking style of play, with the London club finishing fifth in the Premier League during his debut campaign.
Postecoglou's second term was challenging as Spurs ended fourth from bottom in the standings. He did, however, guide the team to their initial silverware in nearly two decades as they defeated Manchester United in the European final.
Current Situation
Forest travel to Newcastle United on Sunday (14:00 BST).
With the current poor run of outcomes, there is little doubt it has been a challenging start for Postecoglou.
And the statistics illustrate just how poor Forest have performed since his arrival.
Statistical Analysis
- In Postecoglou's six matches, they have lost four times across multiple competitions
- No top-flight team has lost as numerous games as Forest since his hiring
- They have allowed 13 goals - at a average of over two per game
- Only Manchester United and Burnley have a worse defensive per game record than Forest since Postecoglou's appointment
- Surprisingly, it is the 35th instance in which a top-flight manager has not secured a victory in their first six fixtures in all competitions
Record Perspective
Paul Jewell maintains the record, having not won any of his initial twenty-seven matches as Derby County boss in the 2007-2008 campaign.
Nuno was fired after only three matches of this season when Forest were tenth in the standings. They are now seventeenth, having tied once and lost two of their three league games under Postecoglou.
He is the first permanent Forest manager in 100 years not to win any of initial six matches.
Supporter Viewpoint
This season could have been one of Nottingham Forest's best in recent times. Entry into Europe for the initial occasion in 30 years, the best squad this millennium and all involved working towards the same direction.
Unexpectedly, at least for now, that has completely vanished out of the window. Nuno has left, performances have been poor and on the recent evening the City Ground turned on the new manager Ange Postecoglou after only six games.
However it's very much classic Forest, a team that shifts from success to self-made disaster like a learner driver who fails to remain in a traffic line.
Future Challenges
With games against the Magpies, the Blues, the Portuguese side, the Cherries and Manchester United coming up, it's quite difficult to say if he can turn it around before it becomes even more negative.
But ask any fan and they'll tell you the same, it's always eventful at Nottingham Forest.
